Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has ordered all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to rectify all broken streetlights in their jurisdictions within five days, effective today.
During a press briefing at the Regional Coordinating Council, the Minister personally distributed new streetlights to MMDCEs and emphasized that well-lit streets are critical as the region gears up for the festive Christmas season. She noted that illuminated streets boost security, safety and overall well-being of residents.
Hon. Ocloo stressed that the directive aligns with the President’s broader vision to ensure all major roads and public spaces are lit, fostering a joyful and secure environment for holiday celebrations.
Speaking at the event, Ablekuma Central MCE, Hon. Frank Nkansah, lauded the initiative, stating it comes at the right time to beautify the community ahead of Christmas. He thanked the President for his continued support.
The regional minister warned that failure to comply with the five-day timeline will attract administrative action.
The move is expected to significantly improve night-time safety and enhance the overall ambiance of Accra as citizens prepare for the yuletide season.
