The newly appointed Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, has commended Ghanaians for their massive turnout and participation in the nationwide clean-up exercise.

Addressing the media, Hon. Ibrahim said the purpose of the gathering was to reflect on the exercise, take stock of what went well, and remind Ghanaians of the promise to keep the country clean.

The Minister thanked President John Dramani Mahama for leading the initiative, and Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang for joining citizens in the markets to ensure the exercise was carried out properly.

He also acknowledged the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, for suspending parliamentary proceedings to enable MPs to take part.

Wherever we went, you saw the MPs together with their MMDCEs and the traditional leaders and queens leading the people of Ghana in the exercise,” he said.

Hon. Ibrahim praised chief directors, staff of ministries, and security services including the Military, Police, Fire Service, Immigration, and Prisons for their commitment. He said the exercise was truly all-inclusive.

He also commended citizens from all political divides, political parties, media houses, and both public and private environmental service providers for supplying logistics, trucks, and equipment.

“You could see that everywhere you go, people came out in their numbers. This is if Ghanaians want to do something, we can do it,” he stated.

The Minister noted that the exercise proved Ghana has the solution, the logistics, and the leadership to tackle sanitation challenges.

“Sanitation and cleanliness is a shared responsibility. Our participation has been outstanding,” he said.

Hon. Ibrahim urged Ghanaians not to relent, adding that with continued effort, the country will achieve its goal of a clean and healthy environment.
