Accra, Ghana – Ghana’s Interior Minister, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has commissioned new patrol boats for the Ghana Police Service’s Marine Police unit, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to enhance maritime security and protect its national interests.
The patrol boats will enable the Marine Police unit to effectively patrol Ghana’s waters, respond to emergencies, and prevent maritime crime. The government has emphasized its commitment to transforming Ghana’s security landscape through innovative initiatives, inclusivity, and community engagement.
The blue economy is a vital component of Ghana’s national development strategy, with vast potential for sustainable economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction. The new patrol boats will be used for surveillance, patrolling, and rescue operations, supporting efforts to combat transnational organized crime, such as human trafficking and drug trafficking. The Minister commended the Ghana Police Service and the Marine Police unit for their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and security in Ghana’s maritime domain. He urged the marine police personnel to utilize the new asset effectively, working tirelessly to safeguard Ghana’s maritime borders and ensure the safety of citizens.
The government has also acknowledged the support of the Lima Group and the International Justice Mission, which have contributed to the commissioning of the patrol boats.
