Ghana Climate Center of Excellence Opens Doors to Foster Climate Resilience and Innovation

The Ghana Climate Center of Excellence (GCCE) has been launched in Accra, providing a hub for climate change education, research, and innovation. The center aims to empower communities, particularly youth and women, to address climate change impacts and promote sustainable development.
Chauncia Willis Johnson, Founder and CEO of I-DIEM Global, emphasized the importance of the center, stating, “Now is the perfect time” to address climate change. The GCCE will host programs such as the Youth Climate Corps, inviting students from across Ghana to learn about climate change and develop solutions.
The center features a Knowledge Hub, innovation lab, and Sankofa library, offering resources for research, education, and collaboration. Johnson encouraged Ghanaians to visit the center, participate in programs, and take action to promote climate resilience.
“We cannot get behind this. We have to get in front of it,” Johnson said, urging individuals to contribute to climate change mitigation efforts. The GCCE aims to foster partnerships and collaborations to address climate change impacts on agriculture, fisheries, and other sectors.
Cedric Dzelu, Technical Director of the Office of the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, serves on the GCCE’s global board, highlighting the government’s commitment to climate action.
The center is poised to become a leading institution in Ghana’s climate change efforts, promoting innovation, research, and community engagement.
