"Ghana Medical Trust Fund Salutes NHIA for Leadership in Healthcare"

Story by Fada Amakye
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund has commended the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for its leadership in shaping an equitable healthcare system for all Ghanaians. Obuobia Darko-Opoku, Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund Secretariat, expressed gratitude to Dr. Victor Asare Bambo, CEO of NHIA, for his transformative leadership and support to the Trust Fund.
Under Dr. Bambo’s remarkable leadership, the NHIA has shown purposeful people-centered reforms. While touring the country on a hospital needs assessment tour, Obuobia Darko-Opoku witnessed firsthand the impact of NHIA’s work. Hospital administrators across the country have consistently commended the authority for timely re-investments, which has brought real relief to healthcare providers and stability to patient care. These are quiet but powerful victories that sustain confidence in Ghana’s national health system and restore pride in the public service.
Obuobia Darko-Opoku acknowledged Dr. Bambo personally, not only for his transformative leadership at the NHIA but also for the immense support he has extended to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund from the very onset. Dr. Bambo’s guidance, openness, and confidence in the Trust Fund’s staff have made a tremendous difference. He demonstrated that true progress is built not on competition but on collaboration.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund is here to support and complement the solid foundation laid by the NHIA. The Trust Fund’s mission is to stand shoulder to shoulder with NHIA, especially as they confront the growing challenge of non-communicable diseases. Together, they share one goal: to ensure that no Ghanaian is left behind in the pursuit of quality healthcare.
As they look ahead, there are endless opportunities to collaborate, align their strengths for the good of every Ghanaian, and build a system that is equitable, resilient, and compassionate.
With their shared purpose, they can transform the future of healthcare delivery in Ghana. The NHIA is proof that when leadership meets mission-driven institutions, great things can be achieved.
