The Trades Union Congress (TUC) of Ghana has expressed deep concern over the non-payment of salaries to workers of the Ghana Railway Company Limited, a government-owned company, for 12 consecutive months.

TUC Secretary General Joshua Ansah announced that the union, in solidarity with the Railway Workers Union, will fully support a planned strike action set to begin on September 30, 2025.

The TUC has been actively engaging with the government to address the issue, emphasizing the need for immediate action to settle the salary arrears. Ansah highlighted the challenges faced by workers and their families, stating that assurances from the government are no longer sufficient.

The union is demanding decisive and urgent measures to resolve the situation. Additionally, the TUC has cautioned the Ministry of Transport and the Railway Development Authority against attempts to operate railway lines without the involvement of the Ghana Railway Company Limited, the designated operator.

The TUC remains committed to pressuring the government to prioritize investments in the railway sector, recognizing its critical role in national development. The upcoming strike action underscores the urgency of the situation and the need for a prompt resolution.
