Hon. Dr. Mohammed Sherif Abdul-Khaliq, Member of Parliament for Nanton and a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, has expressed concerns about the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. Speaking to the media, Dr. Abdul-Khaliq noted that the uncapping of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has enabled the government to secure additional funds for the Trust Fund.
This development has allowed the government to support several health facilities across the country, addressing the health needs of the people and improving public healthcare delivery. Dr. Abdul-Khaliq also revealed that the government will soon roll out a new policy, the Primary Health Policy, aimed at bringing healthcare services to the grassroots level.
The MP emphasized the importance of regular health screening as a form of preventive medicine, which is more cost-effective than treatment after illness. He highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance the overall health and well-being of Ghanaians, including:
– Uncapping the NHIS
– Introducing the “Mahama Cares” initiative
– Rolling out the Free Primary Health Care Policy
– Investing in health infrastructure
These initiatives are part of a comprehensive strategy to improve healthcare delivery in Ghana.
