The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Okaikwei North, Hon. Christian Tetteh Badger, has outlined his vision for a model municipality of excellence. In an interview, he expressed gratitude to the President, Vice President, and Member of Parliament for the opportunity to serve the people of Okaikwei North. He also thanked his constituency leadership and the constituents for their support.
The Okaikwei North Municipality, which comprises two constituencies, Okampo Central and Okaikwei North, has 11 electoral areas, notably APEM, Kwame, Warrior, and others. Despite being a young municipality, carved out in 2018, it is endowed with rich potentials, including a Forest Reserve and notable areas like the Accra Zoo and major roads such as the N1, N6, and N4.
The municipality has been making some progress, with a new building nearing completion. The MCE’s predecessor and team have worked on the project, and the current administration has committed resources to finish it for commissioning within a specified period. However, the MCE acknowledged a few challenges, including a need to improve revenue mobilization and waste management.
To achieve his vision of a model municipality, the MCE outlined several key initiatives. These include implementing a robust revenue mobilization system, transitioning from manual to automated collection, and providing prompt notifications to clients. The MCE believes this will shoot up the municipality’s internally generated funds (IGF) mobilization and provide more resources for development projects.
The MCE also highlighted efforts to improve waste management, including instituting a two-way collection methodology to manage waste effectively, engaging four waste management companies, and utilizing sanitation cars to monitor and clean the catchment area.
With a focus on excellence and a commitment to serving the people, the Okaikwei North Municipality is poised for growth and development.
