“Pharmacists Call for Urgent Recruitment to Strengthen Healthcare System”
The Community Practice Pharmacists Association (CPPA) has emphasized the need for the government to recruit pharmacists to strengthen the healthcare system. Speaking at the third annual Community Pharmacy Month celebration,
Pharm. Dr. Emmanuel Kwaku Ireland, Chairman of the CPPA, noted that the country has failed to recruit any pharmacist into the public sector for five years, despite over 4,300 pharmacists standing ready to serve.
Ghana’s public health system operates with only 1,300 pharmacists across over 10,000 health facilities, hindering medication safety, chronic disease care, and patient outcomes. The Early Career Pharmaceutical Group has launched a campaign to draw attention to the issue and urge the Ministry of Health to fill the posts.
The pharmaceutical community is calling on the government to strengthen the healthcare system and protect the people by hiring pharmacists. The association believes that this will improve access to healthcare, enhance patient outcomes, and promote medication safety.
The Community Pharmacy Month celebration, proudly partnered by the Health Community of West Africa, features a bazaar showcasing the dexterity and ingenuity of industrious pharmacists. The celebration aims to equip pharmacists with the latest knowledge and skills, raise awareness about the critical role of community pharmacists, and highlight their contributions to national development.
The seminar emphasizes the importance of leadership and professional development for pharmacists, including facilitating teamwork, open communication, and strategic planning.
The pharmaceutical community is united in its call for action, and the association is confident that the government will take steps to address the issue and strengthen the healthcare system.
