“Fibroid Awareness Month: Market Women in Ghana Receive Education and Support”

The Fibroid Foundation Africa, led by Executive Director Elizabeth Korasare, recently visited the Adebraka Market in Ghana as part of the global commemoration of Fibroid Awareness Month. The event aimed to create awareness about the existence of fibroids among productive women in Ghana.

:Overwhelming Response:

The reception from the Queen Mother and market women was overwhelming, with many women expressing their gratitude for the information and support provided. The Foundation’s team, including training fibro advocate Mahmoud Bill Nilanti, engaged with the women, providing them with valuable information about fibroids and their impact on reproductive health.

:Lack of Information:

One of the key takeaways from the event was the lack of information about fibroids among reproductive women. Many women shared their personal experiences, highlighting the need for education and awareness about fibroids. Some women revealed that they had undergone multiple cesarean sections due to fibroids, while others expressed concerns about the financial burden of managing the condition.

:Advocacy for National Dialogue:

The Fibroid Foundation Africa is advocating for a national dialogue on fibroids, emphasizing the need for government intervention to provide free screening services for reproductive women. The Foundation believes that early detection and treatment can significantly improve the quality of life for women affected by fibroids.

The Foundation’s team is calling on stakeholders to take note of the issue and provide support for women affected by fibroids. They are also appealing for sponsorship to enable women to access necessary medical treatment, including cesarean sections.

:Importance of Male Involvement:

Mahmoud Bill Nilanti, a training fibro advocate, emphasized the importance of male involvement in addressing fibroids. He noted that men must also be educated about fibroids and their impact on reproductive health, as they play a crucial role in supporting their partners.

The Fibroid Foundation Africa’s visit to the Adebraka Market highlights the need for increased awareness and education about fibroids in Ghana. The Foundation’s efforts to create awareness and provide support to affected women are commendable, and their advocacy for national dialogue and government intervention is timely.
