"GRA Launches Crackdown on Tax Defaulters: Enforcement Drive Aims to Boost Revenue Collection"

Story by Fada Amakye
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has intensified its efforts to combat tax evasion and ensure compliance with tax laws, with a nationwide enforcement drive targeting defaulters.
Assistant Commissioner Joseph Adjikwei Annan, in charge of Accra Central, announced the GRA’s commitment to enforcing tax compliance, citing the need to address widespread non-compliance and under-declaration of taxes.
“We have been on the field since then, checking taxpayers to ensure that the right thing is done,” Annan said. “We are enforcing and checking compliance, and that’s with enforcement that includes arrest and prosecution, depending on the gravity of the infraction.”
The GRA has deployed additional officers to the field to support the enforcement drive, and is urging taxpayers to take advantage of the opportunity to regularize their tax affairs.
“We are working both night and day and throughout the seven days of the week,” Annan said. “This is not limited to any tax type. All the tax types are involved.”
The enforcement drive is part of the GRA’s efforts to boost revenue collection and promote a culture of tax compliance in Ghana.
