Ghana Takes a Leap Towards Greener Aviation: SAF Implementation Workshop Launched
Ghana has taken a significant step towards reducing its carbon footprint in the aviation sector with the launch of a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) implementation workshop. The workshop, organized by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), marks the transition from the delivery of a feasibility study to the critical stage of the business implementation study.
Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, Director General of GCAA, emphasized the importance of SAF in achieving Ghana’s carbon reduction targets, aiming for zero emissions by 2050. He noted that as a contracting state, xxx Ghana must align itself with global commitments while safeguarding the integrity of its aviation system. The workshop is a crucial step in this direction, bringing together stakeholders to develop a roadmap for SAF implementation.
The workshop is expected to establish regulatory pathways for SAF, education, quality assurance, and ensure Ghana’s aviation sector remains compliant, competitive, and environmentally responsible. The GCAA is committed to turning SAF into a reality, paving the way for cleaner skies and a sustainable future. The event is being held in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the UK Department of Transport, and is expected to have a significant impact on Ghana’s aviation industry.
The implementation of SAF is expected to have numerous benefits, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved air quality, and enhanced energy security.
It is also expected to create new economic opportunities and jobs in the aviation sector, contributing to Ghana’s economic growth and development.
