The Centre for Plant Medicine Research is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a series of events, including a pre-conference workshop on flow cytometry and an international conference. The workshop, which is being attended by over 100 participants, aims to train staff and researchers. The conference, which is part of the centre’s 50th anniversary celebrations, will feature presentations from researchers across the globe, focusing on plant medicine and its applications.

Prof. Alex Asase, Executive Director of the Centre, highlighted the centre’s achievements and its vision for the future. He emphasized the importance of plant medicine and the centre’s role in promoting its use. The centre has recently acquired state-of-the-art equipment, including a flow cytometer, which will enhance its research capabilities.

The centre is also involved in the development of anti-snake venom vaccines and is working towards establishing a snake farm to support its research. Prof. Asase noted that the centre is working with a pharmaceutical company to produce anti-snake venom vaccines and is seeking to reduce Ghana’s burden on vaccine imports.

The centre faces several challenges, including infrastructure and equipment limitations. Prof. Asase appealed for support to address these challenges and enhance the centre’s research capabilities.

The conference and workshop are expected to bring together researchers, scientists, and industry experts to share knowledge and ideas on plant medicine and its applications. The event is an important milestone in the centre’s history and is expected to promote collaboration and innovation in the field of plant medicine.

This event showcases CPMR’s commitment to advancing plant medicine research and its potential to contribute to Ghana’s healthcare sector.
