CLASS MEDIA GROUP CONDEMNS ASSAULT ON JOURNALIST BY FIRE SERVICE PERSONNEL

Story by Fada Amakye

Alhaji Seidu Agongo, on behalf of Class Media Group, has expressed deep concern and outrage over the brutal assault on one of their journalists by Ghana National Fire Service personnel. The disturbing incident, captured on video, shows firefighters in full uniform mercilessly attacking the journalist while he was performing his duties at a fire scene in Kasoa.

Agongo described the conduct as “despicable” and unacceptable in a democratic society that values press freedom and the rule of law. “Such behavior undermines the integrity and professionalism of the Fire Service and tarnishes Ghana’s reputation as a champion of media rights,” he said. Class Media Group will provide the journalist with comprehensive medical care and legal support, and is working closely with the Ghana Police Service to investigate and bring perpetrators to justice.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from media organizations, civil society groups, and well-meaning Ghanaians, with calls for accountability and protection of press freedom.

Agongo urged the police to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, ensuring those responsible are punished. “This is not just about one journalist; it’s about safeguarding the rights of all citizens and preserving Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of press freedom,” he emphasized.

The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation, and the journalist has received a medical form for treatment.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of journalists and the need for security agencies to respect media practitioners’ rights.
