The Medical and Dental Council of Ghana has formally inducted 746 newly qualified Physician Assistants and Certified Registered Anaesthetists into the health profession.

The ceremony was led by Dr. Divine Ndonbi Banyubala, Registrar of the MDC, on behalf of the Board and Management of the Council.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Banyubala said the induction is part of the Council’s legal duty under the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2016. He explained that the exercise ensures only people with the right knowledge, skills, and ethics are allowed to practice medicine in Ghana.

“This induction is not just symbolic. It is a public affirmation of your character and commitment to serve,” he told the new inductees.

The 746 graduates are from universities and health training institutions across Ghana including University of Health and Allied Sciences, KNUST, University for Development Studies, Central University, Garden City University, and the Schools of Anaesthesia at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, and Ridge Hospital. Foreign-trained Physician Assistants who passed the Council’s licentiate exams were also inducted.

With their provisional registration, the new professionals can now begin their pre-registration practice, also called internship, at accredited health facilities in Ghana.

Dr. Banyubala reminded them that from today they now carry direct responsibility for patient care.
“You are now custodians of public trust. This trust must be earned and sustained,” he said.

The event was attended by the Honorable Minister for Health, Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, represented by Dr. Hasis Adam Kahel, as well as family, friends, and well-wishers who joined both in person and online.

The Medical and Dental Council is the statutory body under the Ministry of Health responsible for regulating doctors, dentists, and physician assistants in Ghana.
