“Media Freedom Under Fire: Class Media Group Condemns Assault on Journalist”
Class Media Group has expressed deep concern over the assault on one of its journalists by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service. The incident occurred while the journalist, Samuel Addo, was covering a fire at the Kasoa New Market in the Central Region on January 4, 2026. Addo was reportedly filming an altercation between traders and firefighters when he was confronted, had his phone seized, and was assaulted by about ten fire officers.
Alhaji Seidu Agongo, on behalf of Class Media Group, has called for a swift and impartial investigation into the incident, emphasizing that such actions threaten press freedom and Ghana’s credibility as a champion of media rights.
The West Africa Editors Society (WAES) has also condemned the attack, urging authorities to hold those responsible accountable.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with Minister of State Felix Kwakye Ofosu promising firm action against the perpetrators.
The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation, and the journalist has received a medical form for treatment.
