The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) recently celebrated its 11th anniversary and launched its corporate website. The event, held in Accra, brought together distinguished guests, industry players, government agencies, and members of the diplomatic corps.
IEAG Executive Secretary, Samson Asaki Awingobit, reflected on the association’s humble beginnings in 2014, driven by a conviction to address the challenges faced by importers and exporters. “We were deeply disturbed by the silent cries and unspoken frustration of thousands of importers and exporters across the country,” he said. The association was born out of a need for a unified voice to advocate for the interests of importers and exporters.
Awingobit highlighted the association’s efforts to back advocacy with action, research, policy dialogue, media pressure, and constructive engagement. The association has worked closely with key stakeholders and institutions, including the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Ghana Maritime Authority, and Ghana Export Promotion Authority.
The IEAG Executive Secretary expressed gratitude to partner institutions and sister associations for their collaboration and mutual respect. “Their collaboration, even when we disagree, reflected mutual respect and a shared commitment to building a fairer trade environment,” he noted.
As the IEAG embarks on a new chapter, Awingobit emphasized the importance of continued support and partnership to address the challenges facing importers and exporters.
The association’s corporate website launch marks a significant milestone in its efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the trade sector.
