A high-level delegation from the State of Palestine, led by Hon. Dr. Varsen O. V. Aghabekian, has arrived in Ghana on a mission to strengthen bilateral cooperation and seek support for the Palestinian people.
Dr. Aghabekian conveyed gratitude to Ghana for its unwavering support, thanking President John Dramani Mahama for his support at the UN, emphasizing respect for international law and the rights of the Palestinian people, particularly the children of Gaza.
He also expressed appreciation for Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Blackwa, for describing the atrocities committed against the Palestinian people in Gaza as “genocide”.
The envoy highlighted the dire situation in Gaza, where attacks continue despite a ceasefire, and humanitarian assistance is insufficient. He called for sustained international pressure to ensure a complete ceasefire, increased humanitarian aid, and implementation of the Trump peace plan.
Dr. Aghabekian’s visit aims to strengthen political consultations, sign Memoranda of Understanding, and promote official visits between Ghana and Palestine. He urged Ghanaians to continue demonstrating support for the Palestinian cause, noting that 160 countries have recognized the State of Palestine, and more recognitions are needed to amplify the Palestinian position.
The envoy emphasized the need for immediate relief efforts, including increased humanitarian assistance, to address the suffering of the Palestinian people.
He stressed that any delay in a complete ceasefire means loss of Palestinian life, and urged the international community to act swiftly to address the humanitarian crisis in humanitarian assistance and protection.
The delegation’s visit is a significant step towards strengthening Ghana-Palestine relations and promoting peace and stability in the region.
