Private Sector Must Lead Ghana's Economic Diplomacy//Dr. Daniel Augustus Lartey Jnr.

Accra, the home of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, is the best place to discuss economic diplomacy and the role of the private sector.

Speaking at a forum in Accra, it was stated that economic diplomacy cannot succeed through government action alone and that the private sector must play a strategic role.

It was noted that Ghana cannot build lasting prosperity by selling raw materials and buying back finished products.

Ghanaian businesses were urged to process more of what they produce and build supply chains that serve markets across Africa.

Businesses were also urged to help shape trade policies, with Chambers of Commerce, manufacturers and trade associations encouraged to bring their experience to the table, as they know where customs delays and high costs make trade difficult.

It was stressed that their voice can help turn trade agreements into practical results.

Ghanaian firms were further charged to lead through innovation and integrity to attract partners in technology, finance and clean energy.

It was added that government has a vital responsibility to provide stable policies, efficient ports and a fair business environment to give investors confidence to come and stay.

The media was also called upon to tell the beautiful stories of Ghanaian enterprise and ask hard questions when policies hold businesses back.

“African markets are opening and global trade is changing. This is Ghana’s moment to move from promise to productivity, from agreements to investments, and from opportunity to shared prosperity,” it was stated.
