Imperialism's Rampage: Ghana's Socialist Movement Sounds Alarm

Story by Fada Amakye
The Socialist Movement of Ghana, in collaboration with the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, has sounded a strong warning about the dangers of imperialism, describing it as being “on the rampage” and threatening global peace and stability. Ghanaian journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr was among the speakers at the event, which marked the 60th anniversary of a significant event.
Speakers highlighted instances of US interference in countries such as Venezuela, Iran, and Canada, warning that Ghana and other countries must not sit idly by and allow these actions to continue. “Everything has everything to do with us,” said one speaker, urging Ghanaians to join organizations and take action to resist imperialism.
The speakers condemned the US for its aggressive actions, including the capture of democratically elected President Maduro of Venezuela and the attempted annexation of Canada as the 52nd state.
The event emphasized that resistance is not limited to military might, but can also be achieved through the battle of ideas and collective action. “We don’t need ballistic missiles to fight,” said one speaker, urging attendees to join organizations and work together to challenge imperialism. The Socialist Movement of Ghana called on Ghanaians to be vigilant and proactive in defending their country’s sovereignty and interests.
The speakers also criticized the US for imposing crippling sanctions on countries like Iran, leading to immense suffering for the people, and then turning around to accuse them of human rights abuses. “They impose sanctions on you, they destroy your economy, and then they turn around to say, your people are suffering,” said one speaker, highlighting the hypocrisy of US foreign policy.
The event concluded with a call to action, urging Ghanaians to join organizations and work together to resist imperialism and promote global peace and justice.
