Story by Fada Amakye
The Chief of Nsawam, Nana Kwamena Ansah I, Adontenhene of Akuapem, is appealing to the youth in the community to stop drug abuse, describing it as a threat to peace and development in Nsawam.
Speaking through the palace, Nana Kwamena Ansah I said drug use among young people in the area is becoming alarming and is destroying families and the future of the youth.
He is calling on the media to help him send a strong message to the boys in the community to stay away from drugs.
“The youth are the future of Nsawam. Drugs are not good for our community. I am asking the media to help me tell them to stop,” the Chief said.
The Municipal Chief Executive of Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly, Fummey Selorm, has also pledged to support the Chief in the campaign against drug abuse.
Mr. Selorm said the Assembly will work with traditional authorities, security agencies, and community leaders to tackle the menace and provide alternatives for the youth.
He noted that drug abuse contributes to crime and idleness, and the Assembly is committed to helping the Chief protect young people from falling victim.
Both the Chief and the MCE are urging parents, teachers, religious leaders and residents to join the effort to discourage drug use and report dealers to the authorities.
They say a united approach is needed to keep Nsawam safe and give the youth better opportunities.
