Minister Ahmed Ibrahim Says Cleanup Continues Beyond President’s 2-Day Directive

The Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs (MLGCRA) Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim*, has said government’s sanitation cleanup exercise is still ongoing despite the conclusion of the *2-day national exercise* directed by *President John Mahama* last Friday and Saturday.

Addressing the media before a tour of affected areas, the Minister explained that the engagement was to give journalists a “first-hand appreciation” of progress made since the official cleanup.

“The essence of today’s engagement is what Director, Chief Director have just said. Ordinarily, we shouldn’t have done this. We should have gone for the exercise when we come, then we sum everything up,” he stated.

“But we’ve created a long silence, so people are knocking on my door. Every media house wish they get me for a day, but if I want to concentrate on the media engagement, I will not be on the field. But this is field time.

”Hon. Ibrahim said although the President directed a two-day exercise, the Ministry has continued with broader operations across all affected areas.

“As you are all aware, the cleanup exercise marked the beginning of a much broader operational effort. Since then, substantial mobile activities have been continued across all the affected areas.”

“So even though the President directed that we do it for two days, we are still doing more cleanup. And as you are going, we are going to continue with the more cleanup.
