Chief Justice’s Call For Mahama’s Success Is Patriotism, Not Partisanship – Anatu Seidu

The call by Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for Ghanaians to support President John Dramani Mahama’s agenda to succeed has been defended as patriotic and not partisan.

In a statement, Anatu Anne Seidu Bogobiri Esq. DCEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) said attempts to twist the Chief Justice’s nation-building call into politics is “mischievous, hypocritical and unpatriotic.

The Chief Justice had said, President Mahama’s agenda is one that will benefit Ghana. We should do everything to ensure that he succeeds.

According to Ms. Seidu, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the statement.

John Dramani Mahama is not just NDC President; he is President of the Republic of Ghana. His failure is Ghana’s failure. His success is Ghana’s success, she stated.

She argued that if President Mahama’s agenda to reset Ghana, fight corruption, create jobs and stabilize the economy succeeds, every Ghanaian benefits, including NPP supporters.

Ms. Seidu added that the Chief Justice has freedom of speech and a right to nation building, noting that he did not campaign for the NDC to win 2028 but spoke about Ghana’s development.

The Constitution guarantees every Ghanaian, including Justices, the right to hold opinions on matters of national interest. Calling for collective support for a national agenda is not partisan politics; it is PATRIOTISM, she said.

She further explained that the judicial oath requires judges to be impartial in cases before them, not to be silent on national development, and that Chief Justices in other democracies comment on national progress.

She concluded that when past Chief Justices made similar calls for government programmes, those now criticizing were silent.
