The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has emphasized the importance of ensuring that digital transformation benefits everyone, everywhere. Speaking at the 2025 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day celebration, George highlighted the need for inclusivity and equity in the digital age, particularly for women and girls.

The Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation has been working to bridge the gender digital divide through initiatives such as the Girls in ICT program. This flagship program aims to equip girls with skills in STEM and promote their participation in the digital economy.

The program is designed to empower girls with skills and knowledge in ICT, enabling them to participate fully in the digital economy.

The Minister has directed that when presented with equally qualified candidates, CEOs should choose women to promote gender equality in the industry.

George acknowledged that digital transformation is not gender-neutral and that women are often excluded from the digital economy. He emphasized the need for stakeholders to work together to catalyze meaningful change and ensure that the digital revolution benefits everyone.

The Minister highlighted the need to address the digital divide, particularly for women in traditional markets who are being cut out of the digital transformation by e-commerce platforms.

George noted that most institutional representations on boards are men, and the Ministry is working to recommend women with the requisite skills and experience to fill board positions.
