Ghana Boosts Manufacturing Sector with Vehicle Commission for Distillery Company

Story by Fada Amakye

Ghana’s Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to revitalizing the country’s manufacturing sector. Speaking at the commissioning of vehicles for the Distillery Company Limited (DCL), she acknowledged the resilience of local manufacturers and promised continued support for their growth.

The commissioned fleet includes 10 pickup trucks, two forklifts, one articulated delivery vehicle, and one administrative vehicle, aimed at enhancing DCL’s distribution network and logistics management. This investment addresses critical operational gaps and is expected to boost the company’s production capacity and competitiveness. Hon. Ofosu-Adjare emphasized that asset injection alone is insufficient and announced plans to address DCL’s structural financial liabilities, review its operating model, and explore opportunities to expand production capacity under the 24-hour economy initiative.

The DCL, established in 1958, is Ghana’s first indigenous alcoholic beverage manufacturer and one of the country’s longest-standing state-owned manufacturing enterprises.

The government aims to restore its profitability and demonstrate that state enterprises can compete effectively in a liberalized market.
