Ghana Water Company Launches Revenue Enhancement Drive to Address Financial Challenges

Story by Fada Amakye
The Ghana Water Company Limited has launched a revenue enhancement initiative to address its financial challenges and improve service delivery.
Acting Managing Director, Adam Mutawakilu, revealed that the company is facing escalating operational costs, aging infrastructure, and climate variability, which have resulted in a significant shortfall in water production.
The company’s daily water demand stands at approximately 350 million gallons, but its production capacity is only 220 million gallons, leaving a huge shortfall of 120 million gallons. The situation is particularly dire in the Accra-Tema Metropolitan Area, where demand is 210 million gallons, but production is only 137 million gallons.
Mutawakilu also highlighted the issue of customer indebtedness, with outstanding arrears running into billions of Ghana cedis. The company is working to reduce non-revenue water, which currently stands at a significant percentage of total production.
The revenue enhancement initiative aims to strengthen the company’s finances, protect its infrastructure, and improve service delivery.
The company is calling on customers to pay their bills and support the efforts to provide reliable and efficient water services to the Ghanaian public.
