Public Education Key to Fighting Drug Abuse - NACOC Regional Commander

Story by Aikins Agyei

The Regional Commander of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Abdul Aziz Ali, has stated that public education is crucial in curbing the drug menace in the country.

According to him, although drug abuse remains a major challenge, sustained public sensitization will go a long way to prevent people, especially the youth, from engaging in drug use.

Mr. Ali made the remarks when Chosen Rehabilitation Center engaged students of Odorgonno Senior High School on the harmful effects of drug abuse.

He explained that educating people at an early stage of their lives on what to do and what to avoid will help shape their life choices positively.

Mr. Ali also took the opportunity to thank successive governments for their efforts in resourcing NACOC to effectively fight drug trafficking and abuse.

He disclosed that about 1,200 personnel are currently being recruited into the Commission to address manpower challenges.

Meanwhile, the Recovery Ambassador for Chosen Rehabilitation Center, Kwaku Gardiner, has called on Ghanaians to support NACOC in its fight against drug abuse.

According to him, the fight against drug abuse is a collective responsibility that requires the support of all stakeholders, including the general public.
