Dr. Mrs. Christianama Okai Mensa, a lecturer at Accra Technical University (ATU), has taken the initiative to educate students on the importance of sustainability and waste management through her organization, Reclaim Tester Network Ghana. The organization aims to empower students to use waste materials to produce valuable products, promoting creativity, innovation, and environmental sustainability.
The students, including those with disabilities, have been able to create a wide range of products, including clothing and accessories, using waste materials. The fashion show showcased the students’ creativity and innovation, demonstrating that waste can be transformed into purposeful and useful items.
Dr. Mrs. Okai Mensa emphasized that the process of creating products from waste is not only therapeutic but also brings out the creativity in the students. She urged stakeholders, including NGOs, the government, and corporate institutions, to support the initiative and consider incorporating it into the school curriculum.
