"Stakeholders Call for Capacity Building to Improve Public Financial Management in Ghana"

Story by Fada Amakye from Oman fm
Prof. Goski Alabi, CLGA Board Member, Said, A recent assessment of Ghana’s public financial management has revealed that Metropolitan assemblies are not performing as well as Municipal and District assemblies. The assessment, which covered over 260 assemblies, showed that none of them passed when it came to financial reporting on how funds.
The assessment highlighted several key findings, including weaknesses in records keeping and management, the importance of involving citizens and traditional authorities in the planning process, and the need for capacity building for officers and executives at the district assembly level. These findings suggest that there are significant challenges to be addressed in order to improve public financial management in Ghana.
To address these challenges, stakeholders are calling for several interventions, including:
1.Continuous training for officers and executives at the district assembly level to enhance their skills and knowledge.
2.Ensuring that the right resources, including internet connectivity, are in place to facilitate effective work.
3.Encouraging citizen participation in the planning process to ensure that plans are inclusive and responsive to community needs.
The stakeholders are optimistic that with these interventions, the performance of the assemblies will improve in the future. They believe that the engagements and town hall activities undertaken will yield positive results next year. By working together to address these challenges, Ghana can improve its public financial management and achieve better outcomes for its citizens.
