UG Philosophy Students Win Debate On Anti-LGBTQ Bill

The Association of Philosophy and Classics Students [AFICLAS] of the University of Ghana has won a debate against the Law School on the proposed Anti-LGBTQ Bill.
The debate was held on Sunday as part of AFICLAS Week celebrations. It was organized by AFICLAS President, Enock Kwadjo Ahafia. Mr. Ahafia said the event was meant to get students involved in national discussions.
“As philosophers, we know philosophy is a response to real problems in society. That is why we don’t study it in isolation. We study it to help shape society,” he said.
He explained that the debate focused on whether individual rights should come before cultural and religious practices.
“Some people believe individual rights take precedence, while others disagree. But everyone should have an independent mind to engage issues and bring real change to society,” he added.
AFICLAS emerged winners of the debate.
Mr. Ahafia appealed to the media and authorities to give the association more platforms, both national and international, to share ideas through debate and contribute to national issues.
AFICLAS Week continues with other activities aimed at promoting critical thinking among students.
