“Union Supports Government’s Energy sector Levy Increment”
The International Drivers and Road Transport Union (IDRTU) has expressed its support for the government’s decision to increment the Energy Sector Levy.
According to Frederick Amaechi, National Secretary and Deputy in Charge of Operations for IDRTU, the levy is necessary to help clear the energy sector debt that has been plaguing the country.
IDRTU believes that the levy increment is for the greater good of Ghana and will help stabilize the energy sector.
The union urges drivers to ignore calls for strikes and demonstrations, emphasizing that such actions will negatively impact their livelihoods. IDRTU advises drivers to comport themselves while on the job, avoid taking unapproved fares, and work in a professional manner.
Amaechi notes that current fuel prices are relatively low compared to previous years, making the levy increment manageable. The union believes that the levy will help clear the energy sector debt, which will benefit the country in the long run.
IDRTU urges drivers to continue working and providing essential services to the public. The union advises drivers to avoid taking any unapproved actions that may disrupt the transportation sector.
By supporting the government’s initiative, IDRTU aims to contribute to the stability and growth of Ghana’s energy sector.
