Chamber Of Mines Meets Adamus Over Revoked Leases

Story by Fada Amakye

The Ghana Chamber of Mines says it is engaging Adamus Resources Limited and government regulators following the decision to uphold the revocation of Adamus’ Akango, Salman and Nkroful mining leases.

In a statement, the Chamber noted the decision by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, which followed a Ministerial Review Committee’s report on the company’s petition.

The Chamber said it recognises government’s mandate to enforce Ghana’s mining laws and ensure responsible and environmentally sustainable mining.

“Equally, we believe that adherence to the rule of law, due process, fairness and regulatory certainty is fundamental to maintaining confidence in Ghana’s mining industry,” it stated.

Given the significance of the matter, the Chamber said it is working to get a full understanding of the circumstances, findings and processes behind the decision.

It added that it is mindful of the need to safeguard workers, contractors, host communities and legitimate investments, while ensuring the country’s laws are respected.

“We encourage all parties to act within the framework of Ghana’s laws and established regulatory processes, and to pursue any outstanding matters through the appropriate legal channels,”_ the Chamber said.

The Chamber said it will allow the ongoing engagements to proceed before commenting further on the substantive issues.

It reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue with government, member companies and stakeholders to ensure a responsible, transparent and competitive mining industry that protects Ghana’s national interest and safeguards jobs.
