The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Ghana has marked a decade of delivering impactful projects and initiatives that have contributed to the country’s sustainable development and resilience.

Speaking at the event, Sonja Leighton Kone, Assistant Secretary-General of UNOPS, highlighted the organization’s achievements in Ghana, including the construction of a midwifery training center, modernization of the rice value chain, and procurement of equipment for the Ghana Health Service.

“With ongoing projects in more than 150 countries, we are supporting our partners in building and rehabilitating climate-resilient infrastructure, procuring efficiently to ensure value for money, and building capacity in all sectors, not just for the present, but for the future,” Kone said.

In Ghana, UNOPS has supported over 2,300 farmers in adopting climate-resilient practices, procured over $26 million worth of equipment for health programs, and equipped 25 government institutions with specialized tools and training for climate-resilient infrastructure planning.

Kone emphasized that UNOPS’s work goes beyond individual projects, delivering tangible system change and setting the stage for decades of resilient growth. “We have contributed to building capacity of all our national counterparts, ensuring training on equipment delivered, sharing and building best practices, and developing new tools,” she said.

The event showcased UNOPS’s commitment to partnership and collaboration, with Kone expressing gratitude to the Government of Ghana, donors, and other partners for their trust and support.

“We are grateful to be a trusted partner of the Government of Ghana, and we are eager to pursue and deepen our collaboration,” Kone said, highlighting the organization’s dedication to driving sustainable development and resilience in Ghana.
