The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has highlighted the importance of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre’s (GIPC) Investment Opportunity Mapping Project (IOMP) in driving industrialization and job creation in Ghana.

The IOMP is an initiative aimed at documenting investment prospects across all 261 districts of Ghana, providing a reliable investment data to support informed investment decisions.

The Minister noted that Ghana stands out as one of the most attractive investment destinations in Africa, thanks to its stable political climate, growing economy, investor-friendly policies, and abundant natural resources. However, she emphasized that the investment that has flowed into the country over the years is not evenly reflective across all districts and productive sectors.

The IOMP is designed to address this challenge by identifying district-level competitive advantages and linking them with both domestic and foreign investors.

The Minister highlighted the relevance of the IOMP to the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry’s efforts to industrialize locally, trade globally, and create sustainable value chains across various high-growth sectors.

The project will play an important role in identifying the resource potential of districts and investment appeal to anchor supply chains and attract private sector investment.

The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry is implementing the Rapid Industrialization for Job Initiative, a major effort to create jobs by building new industries and reviving old ones. The initiative includes setting up agro-industrial zones across all regions, building small factories to process cassava, tomatoes, fruits, and other crops, and establishing cocoa and cashew processing planting areas where these crops are grown.

The Minister emphasized the importance of private sector development in driving industrial growth, job creation, and innovation. The IOMP will enable the Ministry to present investors with concrete evidence-based investment cases, connect them with the right local actors, and facilitate the creation of value chains.

By launching the IOMP, the GIPC is taking a significant step towards promoting investment in Ghana and achieving its objectives of promoting inclusive development and mobilizing both local and foreign investment.

The project is expected to play a key role in driving industrialization and job creation in Ghana, and the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry is committed to supporting its implementation.
