The Ghana Police Service, through its Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has made a significant breakthrough in the murder case of Assistant Inspector of Immigration Steven King Ammon. The suspect, Bright Aware, was arrested and charged with murder after a thorough investigation revealed evidence linking him to the crime.
According to the CID, the investigation began on July 4, 2025, when the Camino District Police Command received a complaint regarding the disappearance of Assistant Inspector Steven King Ammon. Investigations revealed that the deceased had met with the suspect, Bright Aware, on July 3, 2025, to settle an outstanding debt. However, the suspect’s conflicting statements and failure to clearly explain the source of the funds used to pay the deceased heightened suspicions of foul play.
On July 16, 2025, the CID, supported by officers from the Counter Terrorism Unit and the Komi yad Police, visited the suspect’s residence, where forensic inspection revealed evidence of an attempted cleanup and freshly sprayed walls. A search of a secondary crime scene near the GDC satellite area also uncovered a partially burnt camouflage fabric and a blood-stained carpet.
Further investigation led to the retrieval of a full person’s clothing with blood stains, wrapped in polythene, and a suspect vehicle was impounded for analysis. The initial glass samples collected tested positive for human blood, and the deceased’s mother and son have provided samples for DNA profiling.
In the face of these pieces of evidence, the suspect, who was initially charged with kidnapping, has since been rearrested and formally charged with murder. He is currently on remand and is scheduled to reappear on August 8, 2025.
The Director-General of the CID, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, has assured the public that the Ghana Police Service is committed to ensuring justice is served in this case. The police are working tirelessly to gather evidence and build a strong case against the suspect.
