“GRNMA Seeks Action to Ensure Safety of Nurses After Incident at Ridge Hospital Emergency Ward”

The General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr. David Tenkorang Twum, has announced that the association will be meeting with management and nurses to discuss the recent incident at the Ridge Hospital Emergency Ward. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of nurses while on duty.

Measures to Mitigate the Situation
According to Dr. Twum, management has already been met and has outlined measures to mitigate the situation. However, the association will still meet with the necessary midwives to determine the best course of action. The association’s primary concern is the safety of its members, and it will not hesitate to take remedial actions to guarantee their safety.

Labor Law Supports Nurses’ Right to Safety Dr. Twum cited Section 119, subsection 1 of the Labor Act, which states that if a worker believes there is imminent danger to their life or health, they have the right to remove themselves from that danger. This law underscores the importance of ensuring a safe working environment for all employees, including nurses.

The GRNMA will meet with nurses to discuss the incident and determine the necessary actions to take. The association’s goal is to ensure that nurses can work in a safe and secure environment. If nurses feel that their safety is compromised, the association will support them in taking the necessary steps to protect themselves.

Prioritizing Staff Safety
The incident highlights the need for healthcare facilities to prioritize the safety of their staff, particularly nurses who are often on the frontlines of patient care. By addressing safety concerns and taking proactive measures, healthcare facilities can create a more secure and supportive work environment for their staff.

The GRNMA’s efforts to address this issue will likely have a positive impact on the working conditions of nurses in Ghana. By advocating for the safety and well-being of its members, the association is playing a crucial role in promoting a healthy and productive work environment in the healthcare sector.
