The General Rights Protection Society (GRPS) has suspended its planned protest against galamsey activities, dubbed “Let Galamsey Fall.”

The pressure group (GRPS) suspended its protest after a meeting with the police, facilitated by the Deputy Attorney General.

According to Okatakyie Afrifa, the group’s lead convenor, this engagement led to the decision to suspend the demonstration, with the police requesting time to prepare and provide adequate protection.

During the meeting, the police requested time to prepare themselves to provide full protection for the protesters.

After deliberation, the GRPS agreed to call off the demonstration. However, Okatakyie Afrifa emphasized that the suspension of the protest does not mean the fight against galamsey has been abandoned.

“The fight against galamsey is still on,” Okatakyie Afrifa stated. “Though we have suspended the demonstration, we remain committed to addressing the issue of illegal mining and its impact on our environment and water bodies.”

The GRPS is determined to continue its advocacy efforts to protect the nation’s natural resources.
