The Rector of Fanaka International University College, Prof. Samuel Agyei Ampomah, has welcomed a new partnership between the university and the Ghana Securities Industry Institute (GISI) to train finance professionals.

The partnership was sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Fanaka and GISI for the Master of Science program in Finance.

Under the MoU, both institutions will collaborate on curriculum benchmarking, professional pathway orientation, practitioner engagement and capacity building for the securities market.

The CEO of GISI, Lawyer Alexander Williams, who was present at the signing, said GISI is now a professional body certified on December 3, 2025, with a mandate to train professionals, conduct research and educate the public on securities and investments.

He said GISI runs two recognized training pathways – the GISI professional pathway for SEC licensing, and the GISI CISI pathway in collaboration with the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) UK.

He disclosed that students who complete the joint program will receive a portable certificate bearing both GISI and CISI logos, which will enable them to practice in any country where CISI operates, making them global citizens trained in Ghana.

Prof. Ampomah described the MoU as a historic and remarkable event for Fanaka that will benefit students, both institutions and Ghana as a whole.

On his part,  the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Securities Industry Institute (GISI), Lawyer Alexander Williams, disclosed that GISI is now a professional body certified on December 3, 2025.

He said the institute was initially a company limited by shares with shareholders being the Securities and Exchange Commission, Ghana Stock Exchange, Central Securities Depository and Ghana Securities Industry Association.

Lawyer Williams said the mandate of GISI remains to train professionals, conduct research and educate the public on securities and investments.

He explained that formal training started in 2020 with two streams – the GISI professional pathway which is a requirement to obtain a representative license from SEC, and the GISI CISI qualification pathway designed with the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) UK.

According to him, both pathways are recognized by the SEC, and the CISI qualification is a disciplined online course where students must pass one level before moving to the next.

Lawyer Williams was speaking during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between GISI and Fanaka International University College.

He said the MoU is to establish a structured academic-professional collaboration for the Master of Science program in Finance at Fanaka.

The collaboration will promote curriculum benchmarking, practitioner engagement, student professional development and securities market capacity building.

He noted that students who complete the program will receive a portable certificate embossed with both GISI and CISI logos, which allows them to practice in any country where CISI has a branch.

He commended Fanaka International University College for the initiative, saying the collaboration will benefit both institutions and the nation.
