The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has stepped up its efforts to combat tax evasion, with a recent visit to five companies in Accra Central.

Assistant Commissioner Joseph Adjikwei Annan, in charge of Accra Central, led the enforcement team, which visited Ivan Plastics, Data Lakes, Inter Africa, Association, and Sky Wonderland.

At Ivan Plastics, the team found that the company had no records available, and the management was invited to the GRA office for further discussion. At Data Lakes, the team discovered that the company was issuing receipts but claimed that the invoice was done at the sprinters wing of the company.

Inter Africa was found to be non-compliant with the e-VAT regulations, and the team has invited the management to the GRA office for further discussion. Association, which is also supposed to be on the e-VAT system, claimed technical challenges and was given a partial seal-off with a deadline to correct the wrongs.

Sky Wonderland claimed to be registered but had no records available, and the team has decided to assess them preemptively and ensure that they receive invoices.

Annan warned that the GRA will not tolerate tax evasion and urged companies to comply with tax laws. “This is a warning to all, when we come and you decide to hide records, then your problems,” he said.

The GRA has vowed to continue its enforcement drive, with a focus on ensuring that all companies comply with tax laws and regulations.
