“NCA Celebrates World Telecommunication and Information Society Day”
The National Communications Authority (NCA) recently celebrated World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, marking an important occasion in the world of telecommunications. The event brought together industry stakeholders, including government officials, telecommunications companies, and media representatives.
The Acting Director General of the NCA, Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, welcomed guests and highlighted the authority’s focus on consumer protection, quality of service, and affordable communication services. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the NCA and industry players to deliver reliable, secure, and high-quality communication services.
The NCA has recently issued consultation papers on the rationalization of spectrum assignments and the review of the authority’s fees and charges. The authority is also studying tariffs on data services to provide an advisory to the Minister.
The NCA has strengthened its focus on consumer protection, with a restructured division dedicated to consumer affairs. The authority is intensifying quality of service monitoring, verification of billing accuracy, and complaints management.
The NCA is working with the Ghana Standards Authority to develop a Ghana standard for fiber optic cables. The authority has also made recommendations to the Minister to amend the law to provide for administrative fines for persons who recklessly or negligently damage or destroy communication facilities or infrastructure.
The NCA’s celebration of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day highlights the importance of telecommunications in Ghana’s development. The authority’s efforts to promote consumer protection, quality of service, and affordable communication services are crucial to ensuring that Ghanaians have access to reliable and secure communication services.
