“Nurses and Midwives Get Boost as GRNMA Meets with Fair Wages Commission”
The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) recently met with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to discuss outstanding items in the collective agreement. The meeting, held on July 15, 2025, followed a previous meeting with the parliamentary Select Committee on Health on July 10, 2025.
The key discussions centered around the 8% non-basic allowance, fuel allowance, and other items in Appendix B of the collective agreement. The employer acknowledged distortions in the market premium for nurses and midwives and agreed to take urgent steps to rectify the situation. Fuel allowance will be paid to those entitled to it at government-approved rates.
The employer has agreed to implement various allowances, including the Continuous Professional Development allowance, 13th month allowance, and medical subsidy. Additionally, the employer will ensure that all nurses and midwives have their accumulated required CPDs and are duly licensed by December 31, 2025.
GRNMA has decided to halt all intended industrial actions pending the full implementation of the entirety of the collective agreement. The association’s leadership has a responsibility to follow up on the agreements between the parties and will ensure that the agreements are implemented.
Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, President of GRNMA, emphasized the importance of respecting and recognizing the contributions of nurses and midwives to economic development. She noted that nurses and midwives deserve better working conditions and that the association will continue to advocate for their rights.
The meeting marks a significant step towards resolving the outstanding issues in the collective agreement and improving the working conditions of nurses and midwives in Ghana.
