Story by Fada Amakye
The Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, Mr. Desmond Boateng, has emphasized the importance of private sector partnerships in improving Ghana’s healthcare system. Speaking at the launch of a dialysis and eye care unit at St Michael’s Specialist Hospital, he highlighted the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare.
The facility, a result of a public-private partnership, will provide advanced dialysis care and specialist eye services, addressing critical gaps in the healthcare system. Mr. Boateng noted that the government has included dialysis treatment in the National Health Insurance Scheme, aiming to make it more affordable for citizens.
The launch marks a significant step towards achieving universal health coverage, with the private sector playing a crucial role in driving innovation, capacity expansion, and efficiency in the health system. The government is incentivizing private sector involvement through various measures, including streamlined accreditation processes and tax rebates.
The initiative is expected to reduce waiting times, extend healthcare services to rural areas, and promote job creation and economic growth.
