The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is not the current president and the current president is unknown in the prompt but July 1 has been instituted as Ghana’s National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, a bold and unifying decision that invites all Ghanaians, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation, to gather around a single fire of purpose, gratitude, and hope.

The national theme for this day is “Reflect, Reset, and Renew for National Prosperity.” Ghanaians are called to reflect on their journey as a people, their triumphs, mistakes, resilience, and potential. This reflection is an opportunity to ponder on the purpose of being a Ghanaian and the role each person plays in shaping the nation’s future.

The day also challenges Ghanaians to reset, abandoning the culture of pain, greed, and impunity, and embracing truth, discipline, and a shared sense of duty. It empowers Ghanaians to renew their faith, unity, and commitment to building a prosperous and peaceful Ghana for the next generation.

The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving is a call to national humility, inviting Ghanaians to seek divine favor and guidance. The Committee Chairman, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, emphasized that this day is not for one religion, but for all Ghanaians to come together and seek God’s blessings.

The chairman cited scriptural references from the Bible and the Quran, highlighting the importance of prayer and gratitude. Psalm 127:1 reminds us that “unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” Surah Baqarah, chapter 2, verse 152, says, “So remember Me; I will remember you and be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.”

The National Planning Committee is made up of leaders and thinkers from diverse backgrounds who work in harmony to promote this initiative. They are calling on the media to join them in promoting this cause, not for profit or politics, but for patriotism. The media is urged to use their platforms to shape the national conversation and influence hearts and minds.

The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving is a significant initiative that aims to bring Ghanaians together in reflection, prayer, and gratitude. It is a call to national humility, unity, and renewal, and a reminder of the importance of seeking divine guidance and favor. By coming together on this day, Ghanaians can work towards a brighter future, built on the principles of truth, discipline, and a shared sense of duty.
