Trade Minister Cracks Down on Middlemen in Abossey Okai Spare Parts Market

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has visited the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Market in Accra to promote fair pricing and curb middlemen exploitation. The visit aimed to assess current spare parts prices and address challenges facing traders.

Hon. Ofosu-Adjare emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring fairness and transparency in pricing, particularly for items affecting transport costs and living expenses.

The President of the Abossey Okai Market Association, Mr. Henry Okyere Jnr., acknowledged that spare parts prices have significantly reduced, but middlemen (“Affairs”) remain a major challenge, inflating prices and misleading customers.

To tackle this, the government plans to establish a police post at the market entrance and urges dealers to integrate these middlemen formally.

The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, announced plans to create a designated car park along the Agbogbloshie stretch by February 2026 to decongest the area and encourage direct dealings between car owners and shop owners.
