Queen Mother of Akuapem Speaks Out on Okuapehene Selection Process

Story by Fada Amakye
The Queen Mother of Akuapem, Nana Afua Nketiaa Obuo II, has expressed concerns over the selection and lamination process of the new Okuapehene, following the passing of Oseadeeyo Addo Dankwa III in July 2015.
According to the Queen Mother, the final traditional rites for the late Okuapehene have not been performed, making any celebration premature. She emphasized that she is the sole person responsible for identifying the nominee and that the process has not yet begun.
The Queen Mother’s comments come amid discussions and speculations about the selection process. However, she clarified that no one has been publicly put forward as a nominee, and the process is still in its early stages.
The Queen Mother’s statement aims to reiterate her authority in the selection process and ensure that traditional customs and protocols are followed.
