Story by Fada Amakye
The Church of Pentecost Abeka District and Schools Outreach Ministry has taken a significant step towards promoting breast cancer awareness and empowering students in the municipality. As part of their noble endeavor to educate younger generations about the critical issue of breast cancer awareness, the church embarked on a tour of various educational institutions.
The primary aim of this initiative was to actively engage with students, offering not only school essential items that aid in their educational journey but also enlightening them regarding the significance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which takes place in October. This month serves as a dedicated period to build awareness, educate communities, and encourage prevention and early detection efforts for breast cancer.
During the program, Pastor Samuel Mireku Kesse, the esteemed District Pastor for the Abeka Church of Pentecost, imparted a spiritually meaningful message from the teachings of the Bible. He emphasized the importance of obedience to parents and respect for every elderly person, highlighting that such values are not only moral imperatives but are deeply rooted in biblical teachings.
Nurse Specialist Mrs. Nancy Eshun from Korlebu Teaching Hospital played a crucial role in the program, providing valuable information and guidance to the students. With a compassionate and professional demeanor, she explained the vital importance and practical methods of self-screening by examining one’s breast. Her approach was not merely instructive but also supportive, aiming to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively perform self-examinations.
The church also donated essential school supplies, including pens and sanitary pads, to the students. The sanitary pads were particularly significant, as they will help ensure that girls can attend classes comfortably and with dignity. This thoughtful donation aimed to support the educational environment and address the vital needs of the students, promoting a more inclusive and supportive atmosphere within the classroom.
Through this initiative, the Church of Pentecost Abeka District seeks to cultivate well-rounded individuals who are cognizant of their health, community responsibilities, and moral obligations. The program is a testament to the church’s commitment to empowering students and promoting health awareness in the community.
