"Minister Pledges Support for Women Traders, Urges Price Reductions Ahead of Festive Season"

The Minister for Trade and Agribusiness, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare, has reassured women traders of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) Women’s Wing of her commitment to addressing their concerns and creating a more conducive business environment.

During a visit to Okaishie, a bustling commercial hub, the Minister met with traders and discussed challenges facing women in trade, including competition from foreign entities engaging in table-top businesses. GUTA Women’s Wing National Coordinator, Madam Pearl Poku, highlighted the importance of creating a supportive platform for women traders.

The General Secretary of GUTA’s Women’s Wing, Mrs. Gifty Naana Fianu, cautioned foreign traders against undermining local businesses, emphasizing the need to protect the interests of Ghanaian women entrepreneurs.

Minister Ofosu Agyare pledged to address these concerns and urged traders to reduce prices to benefit consumers and boost economic activity. She expressed appreciation for traders’ understanding during this transitional period.

President John Dramani Mahama has extended Christmas wishes to traders, fostering optimism and unity in the marketplace. The Minister’s visit aimed to engage with the local business community and assess trading operations ahead of the festive season.

The Minister’s assurances have been welcomed by traders, who are hopeful for a more supportive and conducive business environment in the new year. The GUTA Women’s Wing has expressed gratitude for the Minister’s commitment to addressing their concerns.
