Nsawam-Adoagyiri is set to join government’s push for round-the-clock business after the Municipal Chief Executive officially launched work on the municipality’s first 24-Hour Economy Market.

Hon. Selorm Fummey cut the sod for the project on Thursday, describing it as a bold step to bring the 24-hour economy policy to life at the local level.

Speaking to traders, chiefs and residents, Hon. Fummey said the market is being designed as a full business hub, not just rows of stalls. The facility will house a police station, banking hall, clinic, and other support services to allow trading to continue safely day and night.

“This is where business will happen under the 24-hour economy,” he said. “With people working in three shifts, we are giving them a secure and modern space to operate at any time. That means more sales, more productivity, and a stronger local economy.”

According to the MCE, the government’s three-shift system under the 24-hour economy policy is expected to increase productivity across different sectors. The new market, he added, will provide the right environment for that to work.

He expressed confidence that the project will open up jobs for the youth, improve conditions for traders, and help Nsawam-Adoagyiri grow into one of the biggest commercial centres in the Eastern Region.

“The goal is simple. Make it easier to do business, create work, and keep money circulating in our municipality,” Hon. Fummey stated.

The Okuapeman Adontehene, Otoobour Djan Kwasi II, attended the ceremony. After receiving a briefing on the scope of the project, he described it as timely.

He said market women and small-scale traders will benefit the most, because they will now have a safe place to trade beyond normal market hours.

The Adontehene commended government for the initiative and said he expects it to improve livelihoods and bring sustainable economic growth to the area.

Municipal authorities say construction will begin right away. They pledged to ensure the market is built to standard and fully equipped to support businesses operating around the clock.

Once completed, the 24-Hour Economy Market is expected to run alongside government’s plan to increase production and create more jobs through continuous business activity.
