“Ghanaian Activist Calls for Action on Togo’s Struggle for Freedom”

Mawuli Dake, Founder of the Moremi Initiative, has called on Ghanaians to take a more active role in supporting the struggle for freedom in Togo. Speaking at a gathering of civil society organizations and media representatives, Dake emphasized the need for Ghanaians to demonstrate their solidarity with the Togolese people and to pressure the government to take a more responsible stance on the issue.

Dake recalled the incident in which the then President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, invited the opposition leaders of Togo to come to Ghana for negotiations, only to betray them and facilitate their capture and imprisonment. He apologized on behalf of the Ghanaian government for this irresponsible action and called for a new attitude towards the issue of Togo’s struggle for freedom.

Dake expressed appreciation for the sacrifices made by Togolese activists, including those who have given their lives, been imprisoned, or are fighting for freedom from exile.

He emphasized that power concedes nothing without demand and that it will take work, mobilization, and fight to make sure that the Togolese people are free.

Dake called on civil society organizations, the government, and the presidency to take a more active role in supporting the struggle for freedom in Togo. He emphasized that Ghana has a historical responsibility to demonstrate solidarity with the Togolese people and to engage with the government of Togo to help the people free themselves from 60 years of dictatorship.

Dake emphasized the importance of Pan-African heritage and the need for Ghanaians to demonstrate their commitment to democracy and freedom. He called on Ghanaians to respond to the call from Togolese activists to engage the government and support their struggle for freedom.

The event highlighted the need for Ghanaians to take a more active role in supporting the struggle for freedom in Togo and to pressure the government to take a more responsible stance on the issue.

It also emphasized the importance of Pan-African solidarity and the need for collective action to promote democracy and freedom across the continent.
