The Global AI Community, supported by Afrilogic Solutions and Microsoft, recently hosted AgentCon, an event aimed at exposing agentic AI to the general public, especially young people from universities and technical universities.
Dr. Nii Longdon, AI Researcher and Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana, emphasized the importance of taking AI to the streets and making it accessible to everyone. “Let’s not only talk about AI at conferences and in universities, let’s take AI to the masses,” he said.
The event featured a panel discussion on responsible AI, where Dr. Longdon highlighted the need for Ghanaians to understand AI and its applications. He noted that AI is already present in everyday life, through social media and smartphones, and it’s essential for people to learn how to use it responsibly.
The event aimed to promote awareness and provide hands-on practical sessions for attendees to learn about agentic AI. Dr. Longdon emphasized the importance of educating the public about AI, citing the need for responsible AI development and regulation in Ghana.
The event is part of a broader effort to promote AI adoption in Ghana, with the government recently passing the National AI strategy bill. The bill aims to provide a framework for AI development and regulation in the country.
Overall, the event was a step towards promoting AI awareness and education in Ghana, and encouraging the public to take an active role in understanding and leveraging AI for their benefit.
